Who are you and what are you doing?

I ask myself as a loaded rhetorical question?

I am a lot of people, but at heart I am a wanna be sports journalist.

Actually, that was the path I initially placed myself on back in the mid 1990s by deciding to attend the University of Missouri.

I became a Mizzou Tiger because I wanted to cover sports for television and radio. My dream job was to work for ESPN. So I was going to Missouri for J-school, leaving New York City behind.

But by my sophomore year, I had tired of some of my potential classmates and couldn't fathom spending two more years in courses with some of them.

So the day I got the word that I was admitted to the broadcast track was the day that I decided to change my major.

I didn't make a massive leap; I simply slid over to communication.

Of course, while this was going on academically, I was writing a column for the MU Student news and also occasionally covering the basketball team during home games.

As I neared the end of my undergrad career, though, I decided to go on to graduate school in higher education. That was where I found myself being pulled instead of radio/tv or writing.

I finished grad school in 2002 and found myself scrambling for employment, eventually taking a job as a hall coordinator in Ypsilanti, MI for a year while living away from my girlfriend at the time.

After quitting my job to move to Pennsylvania to be with her, I found myself at home during the day unemployed. And I was bitten by the media bug again. Perhaps it was due to the remote location in north-central Pennsylvania. Who knows?

I got hired on at Penn State in their college of business in December 2003.

In January of 2004, I started to write for E-sports.com.

I was (as usual) somewhat sporadic in my output as the calendar ebbs and flows with regards to my busy work.

But the occasional writing for them was cathartic, to say the least.

I made a go of trying to blog as well, but that always led to several failed attempts.

After relocating to Nevada and getting married (and having a kid), the bug started to rear its head again. I stumbled upon a site called Bleacher Report and started writing for them a bit more. It's also where I decided, since it was 2008, that I would call myself "The Pigskin Pundit."

After all, pundits are always right, right?

I wrote primarily about college football, but also would occasionally file pieces about other things.

2009 was supposed to be more of the same and it was for a while.

But then I decided to give this blogging thing another whirl.

Being on Twitter has helped a bit, because I've been able to connect to other bloggers and sports writers and promote the site a bit. So while I still have an active Bleacher Report profile, I think I'm going to give this blog much more love and attention this coming year.

Late summer and fall will be given over to college football primarily. Winter and spring will focus on basketball and other sports.

This is an ever evolving experiment, so I appreciate your patience and hope you'll stick around.
